| Primary squamules persistent or evanescent, 2–5 mm long, 1–2 mm diam., esorediate. Podetia growing from primary squamules, 1–3 cm tall, escyphiferous, simple at base, branching above, each branch longitudinally grooved and becoming split, with open axils, rarely with scattered squamules along podetia, esorediate, greyish white; cortex continuous at base, becoming finely warted and areolate. Apothecia always present on tips of podetia, 0.4–0.8 mm diam., convex, pale to dark brown. CHEMISTRY: K- or K+ weak yellow, KC-, P+ yellow or strong yellow. Atranorin (major) and bourgeanic (major) acid present, with psoromic (major) and conpsoromic (minor) acids, or stictic (major), constictic (trace), cryptostictic (trace) and norstictic (trace) acids, or norstictic (major), constictic (trace), cryptostictic (trace) and stictic (trace) acids. | ||
